Last Sumataran Rhino Left in Western Hemisphere.

The Sumatran rhinoceros, also known as hairy rhinoceros or Asian two-horned rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), is a rare member of the family
Rhinocerotidae and one of five extant rhinoceroses. It is the only extant species of the genus Dicerorhinus.

IUCN Status : Critically Endangered.
Found in only six substantial populations in the wild: four on Sumatra, one on Borneo, and one in the Malay Peninsula.

Harapan, the last surviving Sumatran rhinoceros living outside of Southeast Asia, will leave his home at the Cincinnati Zoo and move to Indonesia.

The male is mature enough to mate, zoo officials said at a news conference, and the likelihood of him doing so successfully is much better at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary in an Indonesian national park.

There are only about 100 Sumatran rhinos left in the world.
NEED OF THE HOUR.

"The tiger in India was saved from extinction due to the direct intervention of Mrs. Gandhi, the then prime minister, who set up Project Tiger,"
According to,
Christy Williams, co-author of the Malaysia study and coordinator of the WWF Asian and Rhino and Elephant Action Strategy, "A similar high level intervention by President Joko Widodo of Indonesia could help pull the Sumatran rhinos back from the brink."
