Current Affairs of Oct 1, 2016.

1. China's currency yuan joins the International Monetary Fund's basket of reserve currencies on Saturday in a milestone for the government's campaign for recognition as a global economic power.                      

The yuan joins the U.S. dollar, the euro, the yen and British pound in the IMF's special drawing rights (SDR) basket, which determines currencies that countries can receive as part of IMF loans.

It marks the first time a new currency has been added since the euro was launched in 1999.The IMF is adding the yuan, also known as the renminbi, or "people's money", on the same day that the Communist Party celebrates the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

    2.  In the biggest-ever black money disclosure, Under Income Declaration Scheme 2016, at least Rs 65,250 crore of undisclosed assets were declared in the one-time compliance window, yielding the government Rs 29,362 crore in taxes.

Income Declaration Scheme 2016 came into effect from 1 June, 2016. It's an opportunity for those who didn't disclose income or pay taxes thereon in the past. 
 Under this scheme, such persons can declare the undisclosed income and pay tax,  surcharge and  penalty on the declared undisclosed income. 

The Centre has declared 30 September as the last date for making a declaration and 30 November as the date by which the tax, surcharge and penalty may be paid.
3. China will provide a whooping -$5.5 billion for the expansion and renovation of its mans rail link connecting Peshawar and Karachi. This is a part of the investment under CPEC.

CPEC is a collection of projects currently under construction at a cost of $46 billion,[1]intended to rapidly expand and upgrade Pakistani infrastructure as well as deepen and broaden economic links betweenPakistan and the People's Republic of China


4. SC has given Karnataka a last chance to release 6000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu between October 1, 2016 and October 6, 2016 before the ‘wrath of law falls on the State.

It slammed Karnataka for flouting its orders and creating a situation by which the majesty of law is dentedInvoked its limitless powers under Article 144 of the Indian Constitution to enforce its orders

A144: All authorities in the territory of India are bound to obey the orders of the Supreme Court and render assistance and aid for the implementation of the orders of this court


5. Javelin thrower Annu Rani broke her own national record and in the process became the first Indian woman to cross the 60m mark on the third and penultimate day of the 56th Open National Athletics Championships in Lucknow. 


6. BCCI Asked ICC not to place India and Pakistan in the same group in the upcoming multinational tournaments.


7. Education Ministers of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS)  signed the New Delhi Declaration of Education and agreed to organise an annual conference of the BRICS Network University. The BRICS ministers also decided to strengthen the BRICS-TVET (technical and vocational education and training) working group for preparing national reports and undertaking various studies.


8. IOC Indian oil corporation will invest over Rs 9800 Crore j expanding its Barauni refinery in Bihar and setting up a petrochemical unit at Panipat Refinery in harayana.


9.  China has blocked a tributary of the Brahmaputra as part of a major hydro-electric project, whose construction began in 2014.  The blockage of a tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo river is part of China's “most expensive” hydro project.  The Brahmaputra in its upper reaches is called Yarlung Zangbo, after it originates from the Angsi glacier in western Tibet, southeast of Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.


10. Ministries of Culture and Tourism have put all officials on duty Sunday to monitor implementation of polythene ban at monuments. The ban comes into effect on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and the day PM Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The ultimate plan is to ban plastic in the 200-m radius of protected monuments.” It will start with 25 Adarsh monuments, including Humayun’s Tomb and Red Fort in Delhi, Taj Mahal in Agra, Hampi in Karnataka and Elephanta Caves in Mumbai. It will then be expanded to all the protected monuments in phases.
